Social News Reporter (Central Hub) - Reach PLC

Kirsty Card's two-year stint as a Video News Reporter for the Daily Star came to an end with a transfer to Reach PLC's new Central Content Hub. Her new position as a Reporter on the Social News team focuses on news from social media, using her expertise on video news reporting to focus on TikTok content.

Rock Up Ready (Feb - Apr 2024)

Kirsty started a training course in TV & Film industries - a collaboration between BFI, Birmingham City University, Coventry University and the University of Wolverhampton. During this course, she became certified in BAFTA Albert Sustainability and The Mark Milsome Foundation - Film and TV Online Safety Passport.

PgCert Data Journalism - Birmingham City University

Kirsty returned to Birmingham City University to study a part-time course in Data Journalism around working as a journalist. The course includes learning data analytics with tools such as Excel, Flourish, Tableau and coding with R and Python. She graduated with distinction in January 2024.

Video News Reporter - Daily Star

Kirsty took on the role of a Video News Reporter for the Daily Star in May 2022, telling dynamic video-led news stories from the UK and across the world. She has a particular interest in news gathering from social media platforms - especially TikTok! She was named Reporter of the Month in August 2022 after accumulating 6.5million page views.

Birmingham 30 under 30 & other awards

Kirsty was named as one of the most inspiring young people in Birmingham for her work with Cysters and her journalism. The award was given to her by the company that later hired her in her first official role in the industry. This was the first award Kirsty had appeared on but many more surfaced in 2019.

Kirsty started running her own data news website which was nominated for two awards in the Midlands Media Student Awards and graded a First. Through the course of the project she submitted over 400 FOI requests to public bodies. The project has since been discontinued but she still holds a keen interest in data driven journalism.

Kirsty self-published The Price of Fabulous. A book that covers strong themes of abuse, homophobia and sexual assault. She describes the book as a 'therapeutic' project for herself.

Kirsty began blogging and volunteering as part of the Cysters charity and became their lead writer. She now has input in social media content and posts from contributors.

Kirsty published her first novel - Children of the Movement with publishing company United PC. The book was categorised as a dystopian fiction novel about a rebellion against a unified world government and their mass-mind control.
